Henan Launches "Two Cancer" Relief Fund

The Henan Women's Federation yesterday held a distribution ceremony for the "Two Cancer" Relief Fund for impoverished mothers in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province.

The federation distributed the relief fund of 1,180,000 yuan (US $186,912) to 12 counties, cities and districts which have implemented programs of providing free breast and cervical cancer screening services for women. The relief fund will be given to impoverished women suffering from the diseases.

The All-China Women's Federation launched the program of providing free "two-cancer" screening for rural women in 2009 and has implemented it in 13 counties, cities and districts in Henan Province.

More rural women have benefited from the program because of the efforts of different departments in recent years.

Zhengzhou City distributed a relief fund of 200,000 yuan (US $31,680) to women suffering from breast and cervical cancers, giving 500 yuan (US $80) to 8000 yuan (US $1,267) to each woman patient. Anyang Women's Federation collected a charitable relief fund of 100,000 yuan (US $15,840) to help 200 impoverished women suffering from breast and cervical cancers. Xiangcheng City provided a relief fund of 2000 yuan (US $317) to 30000 yuan (US $4752) for women who were diagnosed with the cancers.
