84 % of Women among Increasing Number of Wuhan Centenarians

The Wuhan Working Commission on Ageing says the number of centenarians in Wuhan in central China's Hubei Province has reached 275, an increase of 74. Of those, women centenarians accounted for 84 percent.

The oldest, Huang Mumei, who lives in Hanyang, is 110 years old this year. The number of centenarians in Wuchang District is 45, which is the highest.

There are 42 and 36 centenarians in Huangpi District and Jiang'an District.

The number of centenarians in Wuhan has increased continuously in recent years, reaching 201 in 2011 from 141 in 2009 and 125 in 2008.

Wuhan has been attaching more importance to centenarians. Each centenarian now receives a monthly allowance of 500 yuan (US $79) and gets 7,500 yuan (US $1187) every year.
